September 2011

Encouragement Verse
‘God…called from the bush, “Moses! Moses!” He answered, “Yes, here I am.”’ Ex.3:4
The springtime speaks to us of God's love of beauty, of new beginnings.
The Celts love God's friendliness.
In every bush I see the flame, And hear God calling out my name.

Tue 13th at 7:00pm - The Presbytery meeting – (6.30pm for those involved in the business side of things) in the Knox hall. This is a great opportunity to hear what he has to say and we would encourage whoever can make it to come along.

Tue 13th at 7:30pm - National Council of Women Suffrage Function – The speaker will be Mary Devine, Managing Director of J Ballantyne & Co. Tickets $15. Enquiries to Susan Barnes, APW delegate to NCW, after service.

Sat 24th at 9:30am - Christians Against Poverty – A day long training course on September 24th 9.30am - 3pm. This is a professional course designed to train people in parishes to run budgeting courses aimed at enabling people to effectively manage their finances in a sustainable manner. The CAP Money course is part of Christians Against Poverty, which primarily offers an in-depth debt counselling service which connects local churches to people within their community who are struggling with unmanageable debt. To find out more about what a CAP Centre is please visit www.capnz.org. The training course is free for Christchurch people and they will supply free materials and start-up packs this time. The course will be held at Burnside Elim church on Grahams Road. If anyone is interested in this as a possible outreach into the community then they can talk to Anne for further details.

Sun 25th at 2:00am - Daylight Savings Starts – At 2:00am put clocks forward 1 hour to 3:00am.

Sun 25th at 11:00am - Presbytery Review Team Feedback Arrangements

11.00am Get a cup of tea quickly and be seated in the lounge.
11.15am Review Team give their first impressions of the parish, explores with interested congregational and Session members dreams and possibilities for St Giles and invites strategic thinking.
12.15pm (approx) Finger food lunch. Review Team meet folk informally as we eat.
1.00pm Review Team meets any other groups or individuals who wish to meet us.
1.15/1.30pm Review Team meets with Session to explore in particular whether this is the right time to appoint a Ministry Settlement Board.
Please, if you are staying to lunch, bring a plate of finger food. It would be great to confine it to finger food as we do not want to need a team in the kitchen and missing what is going on.
